A Christmas Cracker at Terrington

Saturday 8 December 2018, 7pm, Terrington Village Hall, YO60 6PZ

A cracking evening in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society
“Christmas Cracker – pull the other one!”
Terrington Choir and Friends, with Compère Dominic Goodwin

Carols, festive songs and some surprise items. There will be some refreshments and a raffle, and a bar run by the Village Hall.

Tickets £10 (family ticket £25) from Terrington Stores, Lesley Bradshaw 01653 648328, [email protected] or choir members.

Sally Backhouse, regional fund-raising support officer for the Alzheimer’s Society, said “We are delighted that Terrington Choir is planning to donate the profits from their Christmas Cracker towards our work. We urgently need funds for social activities, like Songs and Scones and Music Therapy in Ryedale, but also to give advice and support to families, and contribute to vital research into dementia.”
Terrington Choir is a mixed choir which meets weekly throughout the year in the village, attracting members from surrounding villages and Malton. Over the years it has raised thousands of pounds for local and national charities, but this year the overwhelming choice was the Alzheimer’s Society. We welcome friends old and new, to help to raise money for this worthwhile cause by enjoying a cracking start to Christmas.

Christmas at Castle Howard 2018

We have been to Castle Howard several Christmases to view their special displays, but there is no doubt that this year’s display is by far the most stunning.

Professional designers Charlotte Lloyd Webber and Bretta Gereke have worked with the theme ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ (you know the song – seven swans a swimming , six geese a laying etc.) to produce a stunning array of flamboyant displays and installations to surprise and delight visitors of all ages. Younger visitors can enjoy a bit of virtual reality by indulging in a little elf boxing, decorate a virtual Christmas tree and see Santa flying over the rooftops!

Open fires, candle light and live music evoke all that we love about this special time of year, with the iconic 25 foot traditional Christmas tree adorned with over 3000 baubles providing a breath-taking highlight in the Great Hall. It took two days to decorate this tree alone! The long gallery uses evocative lighting and stunning detail suspended overhead, showing the lords leaping, pipers playing, ladies dancing etc.

For the first time this year the house will be open between Christmas and New Year. Check the castle website for details and remember – if you book online you will receive 10% off admission.
