Walks from Slingsby.

I am very aware that walking the same routes day after day during lock-down can be tedious and some residents may not be aware of all the footpaths and bridleways around the area. I have therefore refreshed 11 of the 12 walks from a book of ‘Walks from Slingsby’ that was published in the early 2000’s that I hope will give you some new ideas for your exercise. They are reproduced in pdf form for you to download. I have not yet had time to walk them all again so there may be the odd gate or stile that has been added or removed, but the rights of way remain the same.
If you do find any route that has been amended, I would appreciate your feedback on [email protected]
Please remember to practice your social distancing when walking and stay safe.
I hope you enjoy your walks

The first 3 walks can be downloaded here, we will post more in the next few days.

Easter Sunday Morning 2020

This picture shows children decorating the cross last year.

On Easter Sunday morning we are planning to decorate the cross outside Chapel with flowers as a reminder of the hope that the resurrection of Christ gives us and also as a sign of hope that these difficult days because of the coronavirus pandemic will come to an end and better days are ahead.

There will be a bucket of flowers near the cross or alternatively bring your own, so if you are on your daily exercise and are anywhere near the chapel please do add to the decoration with a flower or two.

Please keep to Government guidelines, keep 2 metres away from others.

The Pink Supermoon April 2020

Photographer David Critchley was up and about at 3:30 am this morning to add these pictures of last nights supermoon to his portfolio.
When the Full Moon or New Moon occurs during the Moon’s closest approach to Earth, its perigee, it is often called a supermoon.

And when the moon is at its perigee-syzygy, it will look larger and brighter than usual.
According to Wikipedia
Perigee is the point at which the Moon is closest in its orbit to the Earth, and syzygy is when the Earth, the Moon and the Sun are aligned, which happens at every full or new moon. … Wood used the definition of a full or new moon occurring within 24 hours of perigee and also used the label perigee-syzygy.

…and this is what it looked like at 11pm.
