A New Year Ryestream

As the Christmas decorations are packed away for another year, we look forward cautiously to a brighter and better 2021. Here is the Ryedale Festival’s New Year gift. Please click below to enjoy a traditional Yorkshire carol arranged by Vaughan Williams, Benjamin Britten’s setting of an ancient folk song, and ‘Yorkshire poet’ Ian McMillan reading a poem that W.H. Auden wrote in 1941, finding hope in even ‘the most trying time of all’.

Get vaccinated – Don’t get scammed

With so many people now in line to receive a free vaccination, it is perhaps no surprise that the scammers are at work again.

Neighbourhood Watch UK has been alerted to a highly believable scam which starts with a text and advises the user that they are eligible to apply for the vaccine and to click on the link in the text message.  The user is then led to a webpage, which looks very convincing and asks them to complete some details, in order for them to be able to apply for the vaccine.

Small drone lost in Slingsby

A child’s drone was lost in Slingsby on Boxing Day. It was last seen flying north from the gardens of the Hall in Railway Street. It seems its young owner has yet to earn his wings! If you have seen it, please contact Cynthia Fell on 01653 627283. Her grandson will be very grateful.

A couple of days ago we reunited a young lad and his new smart watch, but this could be more challenging, as the drone could be in a tree, on a roof, behind an outbuilding…..
