Wildlife Photography at Nunnington Hall

Photograph by Dr Matt Doggett – “Gannet Jacuzzi”

If you love wildlife then an exhibition of photographs at Nunnington Hall may be of interest. Entry to the whole property (including the exhibition) for National Trust members is free, otherwise the standard entry fee is £6.35

The winning entries from the British Wildlife photography awards will go on show tomorrow at Nunnington Hall until 16th December. The hall only opens at weekends at this time of year from 11am – 4pm , but the show is always worth a look.

Maggie Gowan, the wildlife competition’s Director said “This has been the highest level of entries so far since the competition launched in 2009. Especially satisfying has been the increase in young entries with the partnership between RSPB Wildlife Explorers and BWPA, which bodes well for the future of wildlife conservation and photography”.

The photo above was taken by Dr Matt Doggett in a remote location off the North coast of Scotland.

Local History Group talk

Tuesday 20th November 2012, 7.30 p.m. in Slingsby Village Hall.

A talk by Christine Churches and Martin Holt:

Joyce Hodgson’s plastic bag of documents: the perplexities, pleasures and problems of looking for local history in the legal records.”

Some records, such as Joyce found, turn up in junk shops and second-hand market stalls, on their way to becoming trendy lampshades or coverings for box-files, others remain in impenetrable seclusion in the private archives of Stately Homes, but the majority are now stored in Record Offices up and down the country. We would expect to find documents concerning Slingsby in York and Northallerton; but Slingsby in London, Slingsby in Nottinghamshire, Slingsby in West Sussex, Slingsby in Cheshire…?  They are there too. Then, when we find the documents, how do we decipher them?
