  1. I write regarding the proposal to erect a shelter in Sycamore Close for use of Post Office Mobile Van customers.
The residents of the bungalows in Sycamore Close, feel that this shelter will not only be an eyesore but an attraction for the youth of Slingsby and anti-social behaviour, not to mention the possibility of litter collecting here as in the present bus shelter in the Balk, thereby becoming another eyesore.
Since it was the Post Office who saw fit to close our own local Office and replace it with this Mobile Office – which, incidentally, is only on site for 6 hours per week – then I feel that the responsibility of shelter for its customers at this site rests with the Post Office. A suggestion that the Mobile Post Office van should, perhaps be fitted with a camper van style retractable awning would be much more effective than a permanent eyesore of a shelter. Only in the last few days have I had to reprimand a youth for throwing litter on the grassed area in front of these bungalows and it is felt that such a shelter would only increase this problem.
