Dog Friendly Fundraising at Castle Howard

Saturday 4 August, evening, Castle Howard

FOUR-LEGGED friends and their owners are invited to take part in Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Walk Ten at Castle Howard this summer.

Walk Ten Castle Howard is a unique 10k twilight walk taking place this year on Saturday 4th August. The event includes something for everyone with exclusive access to stunning views on the walk’s route, Castle Howard’s spectacular lighting, live music, picnicking and silent fireworks, all to raise vital funds for the local Marie Curie Nursing Services providing end of life care to terminally ill people in their own homes in this area.

Charlotte Toplass, local volunteer is going and taking her dog Harvey along on the night:

“I think Harvey is looking forward to the event as much as I am. He’s already collecting some money on his very own doggy sponsor form and we are looking forward to taking an evening stroll around such a beautiful area for a fantastic cause, we can’t wait to show our support for the wonderful work Marie Curie Nurses do.”

The event saw over 600 people attending last year with MinsterFM supporting and a zumba warm up prior to the walk which will set off at 7pm. Registration costs £10 and includes a WalkTen tshirt for the event and fundraising pack. Children under 16 and dogs don’t need to register but can still take part on the night and collect sponsorship.

It costs the charity £20 an hour to provide one hour of nursing care to a patient in their own home and £180 for a full evening shift starting at 10pm. Last year this event raised £27,000 for Marie Curie Nurses locally and helped Marie Curie Cancer Care provide more free care allowing local people with terminal illnesses the choice to die at home.

Register today at  www.mariecurie.org.uk/walkten or contact Kyla on 01904 436625 for your doggy sponsor form or anything else you need to support your fundraising.

Thank you.

Talk: Street Churches’ Victorian Rebuilding

Tuesday 17th July 7.30.pm in the Village Hall. Entrance £2.

Dav Smith fromYork University will update us on the findings from his detailed study on the Victorian re-building of the Street Churches, with particular reference to Slingsby.

Dav has been  doing a PhD at York University,  studying the rebuilding of the medieaval churches along the Street in the 19th Century, why it was done, what was lost and who paid for it all. He gave us a brief  talk last year as he was setting out on his studies but now after completing his extensive survey work and work in the archives which have revealed a lot of interesting information, he is returning to update us.
