101 photographs, 101 years of Slingsby

We celebrate Yorkshire Day with news of a book showcasing our little slice of Yorkshire in days gone by. The 4th book in a series published by Slingsby Local History Group (SLHG) has recently been released. Entitled “101 photographs, 101 years”, it contains 100 old black and white photographs, (plus one on the cover) taken from 1864 to 1965. The photographs have been digitally restored in the last few months. The book is available from David Thornley on 01653 627210 at the price of £9, and is also on sale at Tony’s shop. All proceeds go to SLHG and are then ploughed back into village projects.

We show one example from the book: men with carts and horses delivering logs by the Green.

Also recently released by SLHG, the full lists of birds identified in the area by the Revd. St Clair Brooke (1845) and Dr Michael Thompson (1996): https://www.slingsbyvillage.co.uk/history-of-the-parish/opening-weekend-of-local-history-centre/175-years-of-bird-spotting-around-slingsby-and-fryton/
