Great North Yorkshire Sons and Daughters – choose your favourite

With the help of Slingsby Local History Group, the story of Ursula Lascelles (picture) in the First World War was the first to be released online by the County Archives in February 2020. The stories of another nine fascinating North Yorkshire characters have since been revealed. Now you have the opportunity to help decide who is the greatest of them all.

A message from the County archivists running the project:

Over the past year, with the help of members of the public and local history groups and institutions, we have explored the lives of ten important, but widely unknown people from across our county. The Great North Yorkshire Sons and Daughters series has now come to an end, and we are asking you to vote for who you feel is the Greatest North Yorkshire Son or Daughter.

You can vote for your favourite Great North Yorkshire Son or Daughter by commenting or reacting to your favourite nominee on the county council or North Yorkshire County Record Office’s social media channels. (Find the county council’s social media channels @northyorkscc and the Record Office’s Instagram page @north_yorkshire_archive and Twitter page @nyccarchives). You can also vote by filling in our short survey to provide us with some feedback and ideas about what you would like to see from Made in North Yorkshire in the future. By filling in our survey you can also enter a prize draw for the chance to win a £30 voucher for the Record Office’s online shop! The competition closes on Wednesday 31st March 2021, and the prize-winner will be announced shortly afterwards. Fill in our survey HERE:
