Photo of the Month: Portraits

Last month we mentioned the glass negative collection containing around 120 delicate images including a number of  late Victorian Slingsby street scenes that can be found HERE.

The bulk of the images in the collection, however, are superb portraits of a variety of people including this rather beautiful image of a Victorian/Edwardian era family. The only problem is, is that we don’t know who they are OR even the name of the photographer who took it. All we do know is that there may be a good connection to a Slingsby family with links to Prudhoe in Northumberland, and that the collection could potentially represent a unique series of portraits of Slingsby residents or, at least, people with a connection to this area.

Over the last month the website team have been uploading the collection to Flickr with the aim of pooling our detective work  – just like many of the museums do. So far we are about half way through the uploading process with another sixty images to be added to the collection over the coming weeks.  We want to find out as much as we can.

Please take a look at the photographs and see if any faces or photos look familiar from your old family albums. If you see someone you can name or even place within the parish, please let us know. These photographs do go back a long time but it is likely that someone, somewhere, will have the answers we need. It would be great to add names to the faces.
