Slingby’s Christmas Eve Candle service is one of the highlights of village life and this year will be extra special. This shorter service will be held outdoors,  with people encouraged to gather in socially-distanced household groups around the outside of the churchyard wall. We will swap real candles for battery operated tea lights, and helpers will guide you to a place where you can hear a few readings, listen to some lovely singing from inside the churchyard and join in with shorter versions of one or two well-known favourites. The churchyard will also be the location for the final window in Slingsby’s Advent calendar.

The church will be open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and then revert to its normal Wednesday and Sunday opening throughout the festive season for you to visit the Crib and enjoy the greenery and flowers, with family or just to spend some quiet time reflecting on a difficult year past, and hope for a better year to come.

Do join us on Christmas Eve.

best wishes Kate
