The Scarecrow weekend and Slingsby May Day celebrations will be taking place over the weekend of 4th to 6th May. Friends of Slingsby School (FOSS) warmly welcome entries for the scarecrow trail from village residents. There is no set theme, we just ask for a fun, child-friendly entry that families will be able to guess using a clue from the trail. Entries are £2, please submit the name of your chosen scarecrow along with a clue by Monday the 15th April. To enter or for more information please email [email protected] , click on one of the links below to download an entry form or look out for entry forms in the upcoming issue of the Triangle.

The pop-up cafe will be open in the Methodist Chapel across the whole weekend 10am – 4pm, offering trails, refreshments and a selection of children’s pre-loved books and games.

Bank holiday Monday will start with the village car boot sale on the sports field where parking will also be available for the day. On the green there will be live music, maypole dancing, singing and stalls organised by the Slingsby Maypole committee. The scarecrow trail will feature across the whole weekend with trails available from the pop-up cafe in the Chapel and Slingsby Sports Club.

Mayday celebrations – latest prizes announced

Why the picture of the BBC Countryfile team? Well, only that the Slingsby May Day team have secured a pair of tickets for BBC Countryfile Live at Castle Howard (15-18 August 2019), courtesy of our friends at the big house up the road. These will boost the already attractive prizes available in the raffle to be run at Slingsby’s May day celebrations on Monday 6 May.
