After sell-out concerts like the amazingly talented Kanneh-Mason family in Norton, the Maxwell quartet here at All Saints’ church in Slingsby, and last night’s 100 years of Jazz in the Milton Rooms, there is a chance to relive our ABBA years today Saturday 23 July at 3pm in the Milton Rooms. Tickets are still available.
There will be a live band, members of the National Youth Choir, and an extraordinarily talented electric violinist playing a new medley of ABBA songs.
Not a singer? No problem! Enthusiasm is all you need. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome to join in.
Saturday 21 May 2022, 4pm, Pickering Parish Church.
Seven Mercies is a Community Song Cycle by composer Joseph Howard and writer Emma Harding, inspired by the famous murals of Pickering Church. An introductory talk on the murals will be given by Slingsby’s very own Dr Kate Giles (University of York).
A celebration of local heritage and local talent, it is about countering difficult times through small acts of kindness and selflessness, taking the form of a journey through hardship into light.
It is presented in association with the Richard Shephard Music Foundation, the charity which aims to help more children experience music in classrooms, and at events, across the region. The Foundation launched a partnership with Slingsby Community Primary School at the start of this year.
The headline musicians are acclaimed mezzo-soprano Kathryn Rudge and Ryedale Festival’s Artistic Director and renowned pianist Christopher Glynn.
The Launch of the 2022 Ryedale Festival took place on Saturday evening in St Peter’s church Norton, where an appreciative audience of over 200 heard the renowned Carducci Quartet play string quartets by Haydn and Beethoven among others.
At the end of the concert Artistic Director Chris Glynn announced details of the summer programme (15-31 July) and the complete programme brochure was distributed.
So we can now reveal that Slingsby’s All Saints’ Church will host a concert by the Maxwell Quartet, an international prize winning young quartet who hail from Scotland. It will be a coffee concert in the morning of Tuesday 19th July.
Tickets go on sale to the general public (for all Festival events) on Wednesday 20 April, with members able to book earlier.
