October’s Newsletter has a message from Director John Grimshaw about the newly opened Tree Health Centre, details of talks and courses in the coming weeks, free drop-in tours, and exhibition, an appeal and also the opening times of the cafe and the Fortress Coffee Pop-up.
The Yorkshire Arboretum at Castle Howard is due to reopen on Saturday 20 March.
Director John Grimshaw says: “Coming out of a long period of closure is a bit like a bear heaving itself out of hibernation; there’s a lot of catching up to do“
From this Saturday you be able to see what they are doing in the woods!
Contrary to what you may read in your copy of the February Triangle, the Yorkshire Arboretum will not now open on 1st February, as had originally been planned.
Director John Grimshaw says: “Although gardens and heritage landscapes may remain open, we are taking the view, alongside the Castle Howard estate, that for now we can best serve the spirit of lockdown by not encouraging people to travel outside their home areas for exercise. In consequence the arboretum will not reopen on 1 February as planned, which we know will be disappointing news for many, but we hope you will forgive us in these difficult times. At the present moment it is too early to say when we will be able to open again, but we will keep the situation under constant review and get the doors open as soon as possible”.
Castle Howard’s gardens, grounds and play area, and also the Yorkshire Arboretum are to remain open during the November lockdown. The government confirmed yesterday that public gardens can remain open during the English lockdown period, acknowledging the physical and mental benefits everyone gains from being outside in green spaces.
Castle Howard gift shops and Arboretum visitor centre will be closed.
