Slingsby Sport for all – Project Overview:
Slingsby-Sport-for-All-Project-overviewThe sports field has been in its present location between the castle and the church for as long as anyone living in Slingsby can remember, and was certainly there in the 1920s. While it provides facilities which are the envy of many surrounding parishes, major improvement plans are planned for 2023. Cricket, football and tennis are played there.
The pavilion has changing rooms, showers, a communal area and a licensed bar. The sportsfield is managed by an active Committee of Club Members who ensure facilities are maintained to a high standard and promote the social side of the Club. They enable fundraising for the various sports clubs and other organizations in the village such as the Village Hall, School and the Church.
Club Members give time voluntarily to keep tidy the grass on the pitches and the hedges, grass and fences on the surrounding areas. All work associated with the social club is also given voluntarily, maximizing the benefit of money raised for the community and sports facilities. In addition, Club Members raise many hundreds of pounds each year for charities including Cancer Research and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The Sports Club is on Facebook.
