REFUSE AND RECYCLING INFORMATION AND DATES 2017
NB. Change of DAY for GARDEN waste collection (which resumed for subscribers in March): For all residents of the parish the garden waste collection will be fortnightly on TUESDAYS –
Subscription to the garden waste service for this year (from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018) is open until 31st May. Existing subscribers should have received a letter in February 2017.
Our nearest household waste recycling centres are in Malton (Showfield Lane) and Wombleton. There is also one at Thornton-le-Dale.
The collection calendar for Slingsby and Fryton (only) can be found here: Refuse/recycling Slingsby 4_6_8_no_garden Jan 2017
The collection day for Slingsby and Fryton is Monday. (The calendar shows whether a given collection is waste or recycling.) Garden waste bins (for subscribers) are collected on Tuesday immediately following the recycling collection.
Note that for South Holme the waste/recycling weeks are reversed. Collection day (Friday, except Bank Holidays) is therefore normally 3 days earlier than Slingsby, for the equivalent type of collection. South Holme is on collection calendar 1 on the Ryedale District Council website (the one we show above for Slingsby and Fryton is calendar 2). Garden waste bins (for subscribers) are collected at South Holme on the Tuesday of the week in which normal waste collection falls.
If you are unsure, use the dedicated map lookup on the Ryedale website to find which calendar applies to your address. It is HERE
See below for more info we’ve taken from the Ryedale District Council website.

Garden Waste Service
Since 1 June 2014 collections of garden waste have been a subscription only service. This change does not affect other waste collection services. Garden waste collections will continue to be suspended for the 3 winter months (December, January and February).
If you choose not to subscribe, then you must either take your garden waste to a Household Waste Recycling Centre or compost it at home. We recommend that you retain your brown bin in case you change your mind.
If you are not going to subscribe to the garden waste service, the brown bins remain the property of the Council and at some point in the future will be collected from your property with prior notice. However, if your brown bin is causing an obstruction and you would like it removed, please complete the online form to arrange for it to be collected.
Garden waste should not be placed in your general refuse bin.
If you choose to join the scheme, you will need to display a valid licence on your wheeled bin. A licence will be issued once payment has been received.

Composting at home
If you would like to try composting more of your garden waste at home, low cost containers are available now.
Full information and advice about recycling can be found on Ryedale District Council’s website: http://www.ryedale.gov.uk/
With charges for the brown bin collection now in force (albeit only around £2 a throw), you may want to think about increasing the amount of composting you do at home. http://www.ryedale.gov.uk/site-navigation/environment-waste/rubbish-recycling/household-garden-waste.html
