A quick thank you to all our first responders and volunteers who have been in touch with the Slingsby Support Group, to respond to what is a rapidly changing situation as we all take responsibility for keeping each other safe in the current crisis. Everyone in the village should now have received a postcard, offering basic support and help. The government and North Yorkshire are also coordinating efforts and we will see much more of this in the coming days and weeks.
We’re finding our way with what people need. At the moment, given guidance on restricting movement and to help protect our local surgeries and pharmacies, we have decided it would be useful to coordinate prescription collection. We would therefore ask that if it is possible, you submit prescription requests to your first responder by 7pm the night before you need it collecting. If this isn’t possible, don’t worry. It should just give us time to decide which first responder makes the journey, rather than duplicating journeys and contacts with others.

At the moment, Ampleforth Surgery Reception will be open from 8am-6pm and the Dispensary will be open from 9am-6pm with telephones answered between 10am-5pm and an answerphone between 9-10am and 5-6pm.
Hovingham Surgery will only be open on Mondays and Wednesdays between 8.30am and 1pm.

The Google books library also contains every copy of LIFE magazine, an excellent American photographic magazine that chronicled the 20th Century from launch in 1936 through to its closure in 1972. The WW2 editions are especially a very interesting read.

In view of the present situation, Dr Peter Addyman, Chairman of Trustees has issued the following statement:
Following consultation, Malton Museum Trustees have agreed that our 2020 exhibition, due to open to the public on 11th April, should now not open to the public until further notice. The formal opening planned for April 14th is also cancelled.
This will be a great disappointment after so much hard work and careful planning by so many and trustees will be conscious of how much we owe to all who have helped.
To concur with the Chairman’s recommendation, and in our own best interests, the Friends lecture scheduled for 15th April and the AGM in May will also be cancelled. We hope that we will be able to resume our programme as published in the Friends Spring newsletter, in September.
