SLINGSBY METHODIST CHURCH NEWS (from Stephen Prest)

Shoebox Meth church P1020071

As many will already have heard, our minister Rev Mike Smith sadly died after a short illness.  Mike was a real inspiration to us at Slingsby constantly encouraging us to push the boundaries in our work and worship.  He was closely involved in the Iona Community and introduced us to that style of worship also.   Mike was a regular visitor at Slingsby School and his assemblies were very much appreciated by staff and pupils alike. Mike will be sadly missed but we will continue to build on the foundations he has helped us to lay down.

This year’s shoebox appeal was very successful and we were able to send about 40 shoeboxes all filled with toys and gifts that will be really appreciated by some very poor and needy children in Eastern Europe and beyond.  We had a very good and well attended service to bless the shoeboxes which was led by Karen Pattison.

The photo shows Karen Pattison and Katie Jeffels at the Shoebox service.

LITTLE ADVENTURERS.  This is a mothers/carers and toddlers group which meets in the Methodist Schoolroom every Thursday in term time. It meets from 1-30pm to 3pm and is looking for new members.  Contact is Claire Piercy on 01653-691466.

FISH & CHIPS.  The monthly supply of fish & chips courtesy of Malton & Norton Lions Club is going very well and upwards of 25 people take advantage of this on the second Tuesday of the month.  Fish, chips and peas delivered to your door for £2.50 is certainly value for money!

SOUPA LUNCH.  This is held on the third Wednesday of the month in the Methodist Schoolroom at 12 noon.  Soup, sandwiches and a pudding with a cup of tea afterwards.  No charge but donations welcome.

On 16th December there will be a Soupa lunch Christmas special.  It will also be at 12 noon but after lunch we will sing some  carols.

Contacts for these events are Rachel & Stephen Prest on 628277 and Trudy Carr on 628302.

CAROL SINGING is on Tuesday 15th December.  We meet at The Methodist Chapel at 6pm to sing in Porch Farm Close, The Sycamores and Sycamore Close. At 7pm we will be singing in The Grapes Inn.

UNITED  CAROL  SERVICE  This is on Sunday 20th December at 4pm at The Methodist Church.  It will be a celebration of the Christmas story for all the family followed by refreshments.  You are all invited.
