Slingsby Methodist Church News January 2015

Methodist Chapel

Here’s the latest Methodist Church news from Stephen Prest:

Our Christmas events all went very well. The Christmas Praise at the Chapel was well attended and was a real family event with a very good tea afterwards. The United Carol service at The Parish Church was excellent and we were all so grateful for the singing by the children from Slingsby Primary School led by headmistress Georgie Metcalfe. It was good to see the Church so full.
The night of carol singing round part of the village and at The Grapes Inn went very well with a good crowd in The Grapes. A collection was made for the Ebola Crisis in West Africa.

The Slingsby Friday Club is going very well with over 20 children attending. The Womens Fellowship meets once a month on Tuesday afternoons and the Wednesday Fellowship Group meets fortnightly on Wednesday evenings at 7-30pm. We are just beginning a new series called “9-a-day, becoming like Jesus.” It is based on the fruits of the Spirit as told by Paul in Galatians Ch. 5, v’s 22-25.

It will soon get round to Easter and on Palm Sunday the 29th March we are planning a short Palm Sunday procession round The Green in Slingsby. We would really like a donkey so if anyone knows of one not too far away please let us know. Contact Stephen Prest on 01653-628277. On Easter Sunday 5th April we will have an Easter Breakfast at 9am followed by a service at 10-30am.

Diary Dates
29th March: Palm Sunday procession starting from The Methodist Church at 10-30am
5th April: Easter Sunday Breakfast in The Chapel Schoolroom at 9am followed by a service at 10-30am.

We start the first photo of the month of 2015 with a great selection of photos taken by regular website contributor Colin Douthwaite. I think you’ll agree that its a great set of photos.

Colin says in his email:

Please find attached one or two recent photos from Fryton including the full moon over Slingsby a couple of nights ago (Jan 3rd), an extreme telephoto of a heron near Prest’s irrigation pond, Santas visit to Fryton and another stunning sunrise over Slingsby.

Many thanks Colin for sending them in.

Help the website in 2015

Christmas and New Year are behind us and you may be thinking about doing something new in 2015.

The village website had a great 2014 getting just short of the 2013 total for views. Considering that the website is coming up to four years old it’s encouraging to know that people are still visiting and returning to the Slingsby website.

Content is key to the website’s success and that is where you can help. Contributing to the website is easy and can be done as often as you like. If you have a local topic, issue or interest that you feel strongly about why not send an article in to the team? Write it. Type it. Email it. Whatever format suits you best. We’d love to hear from you.

If you have some extra spare time, then the village website is always in need of an extra pair of hands to help run the site and keep the news and event sections up-to-date. The website is incredibly easy to use and we can show you the ropes to get you posting in no time at all.

If you’d like to help or you’d like to contribute to the website then contact us at [email protected]
