POSTPONED: Brideshead Festival, Castle Howard, June 2020

EVENT POSTPONED owing to Coronavirus: Ahead of the House reopening on 21 March 2020, Castle Howard have recently announced this new and exciting event which will mark the 75th anniversary of the publication of Evelyn Waugh’s seminal novel. The story was filmed at Castle Howard for the 1981 TV series and the subsequent feature film in 2008. The Brideshead Festival will be held from 26 to 28 June 2020 and will bring together the worlds of literature, film, TV and heritage. There will be a vibrant mix of speakers and performers, as well as a host of other associated activities.

Repair café, Hovingham, 14 March

NB. THE 13 JUNE REPAIR CAFE HAS BEEN CANCELLED OWING TO CORONAVIRUS.

Saturday 14 March, 9.30-11.30am, Hovingham Village Hall

Local residents are invited to bring along items that need repair. Volunteer specialists will mend or advise, free of charge. Save items from going to landfill. Items can include electrical, household, carpentry items, clothing mending and alterations.

Arboretum Newsletter and continued closure due to winds

The Yorkshire Arboretum was due to open to all today Sunday 1st March, but we are told that it will remain closed owing to the high winds.

The Arboretum is now scheduled to open to general visitors from Monday 2nd March.

Arboretum Closure – Expected High Winds

Please note that the arboretum will closed on Saturday 29th February, including members’ opening from 8am, due to expected high winds. The arboretum will reopen to all at 10am Sunday 1st March. Should the forecast change during the period of closure, another communication will be issued accordingly.
