Looking over Cockayne, Bransdale | Photo by Keith Buck

Keith Buck sent in this rather nicely composed shot looking over Cockayne, Bransdale. The road with the sign slightly leaning away to one side and the distant wonderful view make you want to go down the road. Thanks for sending in the photo, Keith.

Do you have a great photograph you’d like to share with us?

If you’d like to submit an image for the photo of the month slot, you can send it to [email protected]

B1257 ROAD CLOSURE AT SLINGSBY

roadworks

According to a letter from Ringways Highways (the contractor for NYCC) which has been delivered to some households in Slingsby, the B1257 will be closed between Fryton Lane and the drive to Melgate from Monday 1 September 2014 from 7.30am until 4pm Monday to Friday.

It looks like we must expect delays, diversions and access difficulties. Vehicles must be clear of this stretch of road. We expect most traffic between Malton and Hovingham to be diverted via Coneysthorpe and Terrington.

However the good news is that Slingsby Village Website has spoken to NYCC and to the local Ringway contractor and we are assured that reasonable allowance will be made for local access and exit by residents. In particular, we will be able to cross the B1257 from The Balk to the Castle Howard road and vice versa. At times we ought to be able to exit the village along the B1257 directly to Malton or Hovingham, first checking with the team on site.

The full text of the letter appears below.

Dear Sir/Madam

Carriageway Patching Works, B1257 Slingsby

Carriageway Patching Works are programmed to commence on Monday 1st September 2014. We anticipate 1 week to complete.

Excavation and resurfacing will be undertaken across the frontages of several properties during this process.

The B1257 Slingsby will be closed from Monday 1st September 2014 from 7.30am until 4pm Monday to Friday.

Can you ensure your vehicle is out of the working area during these times? Any special access needs can be discussed with the Ganger on site.

Footway access to all properties will be maintained at all times.

As with all works of this nature, there will be some inconvenience, but every effort will be made to keep it to a minimum.

If you have any specific concerns about access, or should you require any further information on this work, please contact Senior Area Agent Ian Jones on telephone number 01609 537156 [this number was unobtainable on Friday 29 Aug, Ed.].
