Classic Car Show at Castle Howard returns

Set within the grounds of the Castle Howard Estate, the Classic Car & Motor Show will take place on Sunday 4th October (having been rescheduled from June). It will offer a spectacular day of motoring heritage ideal for enthusiasts, day trippers and families. With over 500 vintage, classic and modern classic vehicles on display, over 40 trade and auto stalls plus quality food, drink and ice cream on offer, the event is set to be a great day out for the whole family to enjoy.

The Classic Car Show is included within a Castle Howard Gardens ticket (free for Friends of Castle Howard). This event is compliant with COVID-19 Government guidance and we politely ask, due to the recent guidelines that visitors pre-book online and do not book for more than 6 people in a party (unless your household or support bubble is more than 6 people). Golden Autumn at the Yorkshire Arboretum

The restorative benefits of green open spaces and trees have been appreciated more than ever this year, and the arboretum is a perfect place to experience outstanding seasonal natural beauty in safety.

The trees at the 120-acre site near Castle Howard are already beginning to turn with vibrant reds, golds and yellows that will only intensify over the coming weeks. The ‘October Glory’ red maple is beginning to live up to its name and superb crops of berries are appearing in pink, orange and white.

Yorkshire Arboretum Director, John Grimshaw, said “The beginning of October sees the definite change of season from summer to autumn, with green leaves fading and autumnal tints beginning to appear by the end of September; they’ll hot-up as October progresses. Judging by the first splashes of oranges, reds and golds we look forward to an autumn of spectacular colour for visitors to enjoy over the coming weeks.”

The Yorkshire Aroretum is open from 11am – 4pm every day from 1st March – 30th November. Admission is available to book online at www.yorkshirearboretum.org and is £7 for adults, £3.50 for juniors (12-16) and £17.50 for families. Under 12s are admitted free.

Marking Remembrance Day during the pandemic

Remembrance Day 2020 is likely to be very different to past years, but we shouldn’t allow coronavirus to prevent us recognising and celebrating our veterans. That’s why Community First Yorkshire are offering gift boxes to older ex-servicemen and women in North Yorkshire. Funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, boxes will include a collection of Yorkshire-themed items, including biscuits and teabags, as well as commemorative items from the Royal British Legion’s Poppyshop.

The packs are free of charge and will be delivered in early November, arriving in time for Remembrance Sunday. (Packs are suitable for both men and women.)

To be eligible for a pack, veterans must:

–        be aged 65 or over;

–        have served in HM Armed Forces (including National Service) or have seen active service as part of the Merchant Navy;

–        live in one of the North Yorkshire districts (i.e. Craven, Hambleton, Harrogate, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough or Selby).

If you meet the above criteria, or you know an older veteran who does, please see more information on bit.ly/2S3tqPh, email [email protected] or call on 01904 704177.

There are 150 boxes available and they will be distributed on a first come first serve basis, while stocks last, max 1 per household. Deadline for applications is 18 October 2020.
