Wednesday Tennis Evenings Suspended

We regret to announce that the planned Wednesday Tennis Evenings on the Slingsby Courts have had to be cancelled until further notice. The Government/Lawn Tennis Association have issued a new guideline saying that larger group activity that involves people interacting with others outside their group should not yet be held. If and when Guidance allows larger groups to meet, we will report it here.

This new ruling does not affect individuals playing singles or doubles providing appropriate social distancing and personal precautions are made as listed on the notice board at the entrance to the courts.

With Geoff Bishop, who has been monitoring the changing guidelines, we thank you for your understanding.

FOSS Charity Bag Collection 13 July

Friends of Slingsby School are holding a charity bag collection on Monday 13th July at Slingsby Sports Field. Items of clothing and bedding (no duvets) can be placed in bin bags and dropped off just inside the gateway on the grass between 8am & 9am. We’d like to thank the Sports Club for allowing us to do this as it will help with social distancing. So if anyone has been having a sort out during lockdown here’s a chance to get rid!!

Please have a look at the list of items Bag2school will (and will not) accept, to ensure your bag is not refused: https://bag2school.com/what-we-collect

Many thanks for your support. Liz Wilson

Skelf Island adventure playground reopens on 4th July

Castle Howard is gearing up to reopen Skelf Island, its ingenious tree-top adventure playground, on Saturday 4th July, following the latest government guidance. New ‘Skelf and Safety’* measures will be in place to ensure that all visitors have space to play whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines.

Abbigail Ollive, Head of Marketing and Sales comments, “We have been eagerly awaiting the announcement from the Government confirming that playgrounds across the country can reopen. We have been working hard to put our reopening plans into action, ensuring new rules aid social/physical distancing but whilst ensuring our visitors have plenty of fun! We are delighted to be welcoming back visitors to Skelf Island over the coming weeks.”

This week, as we approach Skelf Island’s first birthday, the marketing campaign for the launch of the playground has been shortlisted for the prestigious Museum & Heritage Awards. It is great to be recognised nationally for all the creative playground development that has delighted visitors within its opening year.

The Castle Howard Gardens reopened to the public on Monday 8th June and visitors have since been enjoying the spacious grounds with acres of meandering woodland paths, lakeside terraces, temples, and fountains. All visitors are required to pre-book tickets online via the Castle Howard website for capacity management purposes and will then self-scan at the Ticket Office to have contactless entry to the Gardens. The country estate has been awarded the ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard on behalf of Visit Britain in recognition of exceeding government guidelines, ensuring processes are in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social/physical distancing. Full information of the new measures in place can be found on the Castle Howard website: https://www.castlehoward.co.uk/
