Ryedale Environment Week 2021

This year, The Ryedale Environment Group will be holding their second ‘Ryedale Environment Week’, starting with an opening zoom talk on Friday 17th September. On Saturday 18th, there will be an Eco Fair at Pickering Memorial Hall, followed by a series of online events throughout the following week. The events are being run in support of The Great Big Green Week, a nationwide initiative for climate change.

Open Day at NY Music Therapy Centre, Wath

Saturday 18 September 2021, 10.30 – 15.00 The Byre, Wath Court

The North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre’s Open Day gives you the chance to get a flavour of the valuable community-based work, that goes on just down the road in Wath, to provide therapeutic support to people of all ages.

You can book for workshops (at 10.30 and 11.30) or just drop in anytime up to 3pm.

The Centre will also be running sessions at Pickering Memorial Hall for toddlers and preschoolers (“Jiggly Bells”) every Wednesday at 10.30am–11.30 from 15th September 2021 – term time only.

Plus music-making sessions for families (“Beats ‘n’ Bobs”) every Thursday at 4.30pm-5.30pm from 16th September 2021 – term time only.

New Estate Chief Executive appointed at Castle Howard

Jasper Hasell joined Castle Howard on 1st September in the newly created role of Estate Chief Executive, reporting to the Executive Chairman. In this role, Jasper will work very closely with the Chairmen and members of the Senior Management Team to grow and develop the business. He will be working across all areas but will have direct responsibility for property, land and the wider estate.
Jasper joins the Castle Howard team from Dyson where he was Global Estates Director responsible for acquisition, development and operation of all Dyson assets globally including the pioneering on campus University. Previously Jasper was Senior Vice President of Global Estates at NBCUniversal, the New York headquartered media and entertainment company where he supported the development and operation of their world class visitor attractions.
He grew up on a farm in Somerset, is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and holds a Masters in Real Estate Finance from the University of Cambridge and a BA in Geography from Oxford University.

“Jasper is joining Castle Howard at a particularly interesting and crucial time for the business as we navigate our way out of the pandemic, develop a new land management strategy post Brexit and face the increasing challenge of the climate crisis. He brings a wealth of experience and creative thinking and we are both very much looking forward to working with him.” Nick and Vicky Howard.

September is shaping up to be a very busy month at the Yorkshire Arboretum with several events planned over the coming weeks. The programme includes the opening of the Peter Sowerby Building and the launch of the Tree Health Centre on Thursday 23rd September.
