Planning Permission for Balk Site Granted

As some residents will already know, North Yorkshire Council’s Area Planning Committee met last Thursday (18 Jan 2024) and granted permission to Castle Howard’s application (originally made in Spring 2023) for the erection of 26 houses on the field east of the Balk. The second field further east (under different ownership) was not considered at this time.

In addition to written comments made last year, objections and reservations were raised in person at the meeting on behalf of Slingsby residents, and one further detailed written comment by a local resident was submitted to the meeting.

Ultimately, the permission was granted subject to a number of conditions detailed in the Committee report.

One of the major concerns was regarding the consistency of design between this development and that proposed for the other field. The planning officers assured Members that they had authority to ensure that there was consistency across the two developments.

A New Slingsby Neighbourhood Watch

We’ve received the following from Councillor David Bairstow, regarding a new Neighbourhood Watch scheme for Slingsby, Fryton and South Holme:

Knowing that the old Neighbourhood Watch had ceased to exist, I had been thinking about starting it up again for some time. I’ve now registered a new Neighbourhood Watch for Slingsby, Fryton and South Holme on the official website and started a Parish Neighbourhood Watch Facebook group.

You can register as an individual on the NW site, just go www.ourwatch.org.uk. Once you’ve done that you can search for Slingsby to join the new scheme. The Facebook group, which you can access by searching ‘Slingsby Neighbourhood Watch’, is just a way of quickly alerting other residents of any thefts, suspicious behaviour/individuals etc.

New signage for the scheme will be going up in the coming days, and window stickers will also be made available for anyone who wants them.

Regards,
Councillor David Bairstow
