Nominations for Parish Council election close 9 April

Nominations close on 9 April for the Slingsby, Fryton and South Holme Parish Council election which is due on Thursday 7 May 2015.  All the present Parish Councillors will be finishing their term of office on 7 May.

Anybody wishing to put their name forward as a Parish Councillor will need to be nominated.

Nomination papers are available from the Returning Officer at Ryedale House (Council Offices) in Malton and completed nomination papers must be returned by 9th April (no later than 4pm).

The current council has two vacancies for Slingsby, while the Fryton and South Holme positions are each currently filled. This means that if no more than 2 new people stand for the Slingsby seats, the election will be uncontested and there will be no poll. At present, it is not known if all the current councillors will be standing again.

If you want to know more about what the work involves, please phone any of your current Parish representatives or the parish clerk, who will be pleased to answer your queries. Contact details here: https://www.slingsbyvillage.co.uk/parish-council-and-community/

The official notices of election can be found in this document on the Ryedale DC website (see pages 39, 41 and 68):

The Eclipse over Ryedale | Photo by Colin Douthwaite

Yesterday we posted some images taken by Colin Douthwaite and today we have another. This time Colin has turned his camera to the sky and the eclipse that took place on 9th March.

The viewing in some areas was pretty poor to non-existent but as this image shows, some people got to see enough to photograph it. This image was taken with a compact camera. Many thanks for sending it in Colin.

Photos from the St Patricks day Fundraiser

Colin Douthwaite sent in this great set of images taken on St Patricks day. Colin says in his email –

Photos from Malarkey (including Paddy Morrow and Adam Wright from Fryton) entertaining us at the St Patricks Day cancer charity fundraiser on 14 March at the Village Hall. It was a great evening with good food and music. In the close up it is Adam on the left and Paddy on the right.

“Groundswell Rising” at the Worsley Arms

split-field

Tuesday 31 March, 2.30pm, at the Worsley Arms, Hovingham

The Worsley Arms is hosting a repeat showing of the film “Groundswell Rising”, which looks at the human side of fracking. It deals with the experience of fracking in other countries and the various ways in which communities have been affected.

The film aroused much interest when shown at Hovingham village Hall earlier in the month, and a second showing has been arranged by special request.

The film last about one hour. There will be no charge for admission.
