Arboretum closure due to high winds

The arboretum will be closed Sunday 9th February to Tuesday 11th February, including members’ hours from 8am, due to expected high winds. The arboretum will reopen for members-only entry on Wednesday 12th February from 10am. Should the forecast change during the period of closure, another communication will be issued accordingly.
We apologise for any inconvenience, and look forward to seeing members back on Wednesday.

EVENT CANCELLED _ Village meeting about May Day

Thursday 6th February, 6pm, Methodist School Room (by the Green)

This year May Day will be celebrated nationwide on Friday 8 May, to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day. All are invited to this meeting to help the Maypolers decide what should be added to Slingsby’s traditional celebrations to reflect the VE anniversary.

Your ideas and support are essential if we are to make a success of this most important day in Slingsby’s calendar.

Arboretum newsletter and closure Sat 1st Feb for high winds

The Yorkshire Arboretum was due to open on Saturday 1st February to members only, but has announced today that it will be closed owing to the forecast high winds for this Saturday.

The Arboretum will open to general visitors (i.e. non-members) from March.

Hovingham Market: 1st February 2020

The first Hovingham Village Market of 2020 (with local food, rural crafts & community Cafe) will be taking place this weekend on Saturday 1st February. The market opens at 10.30 am and closes at 1.30 pm.

Dr Ang Swee Chai is a Royal London Hospital leading consultant orthopaedic surgeon who has given her time and medical expertise over many decades to Palestinian refugees in camps in Gaza and Lebanon and has quite a story to share. Come along and meet this remarkable doctor.
