Slingsby’s Photographer of the Year?

Flight of the Guillemot – © Neil Jackson

Professional photographer and Slingsby resident Neil Jackson has recently reached the finals in two major photography competitions, the Travel Photographer of the Year and the British Photography Awards.

The photograph above shows a solitary guillemot flying low over rippling water around Svalbard. It has been short-listed in the Birdlife category of the British Photography Awards. If you like it, you can vote for it to receive the People’s Choice award by following this link to the BPA website. We wish Neil well in the awards and in his future travels.

You can read a fascinating article about Neil and his wildlife work in the December issue of the Triangle, which residents will have received a week or so ago. To find out more about his professional work, visit Neil’s website here.

As you progress through the rooms you may encounter members of the Commedia dell’Arte troupe there to entertain you. The magical immersive experience culminates in the Long Gallery, which is spectacularly adorned as the Grand Canal.

Don’t forget to visit the chapel, which has been dressed by children from Slingsby School working with Castle Howard’s charity of the year, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

There will be twilight opening on Saturdays 14 and 21 December.
