Ryedale District Council are continuing their consultation and review of their Development Plan. The Development Plan will set out the policies for future development in Ryedale and more significantly for us, policies that could impact on development in Slingsby. This so-called “Key Decisions Consultation” is the next stage for Ryedale District Council to gain views on the proposed policy approaches they are considering as part of the review of the Ryedale Plan. The consultation document also sets out some of the key messages received as a result of the consultation so far. It is quite an in-depth document. Feedback can be given using an on-line form (where each question refers to a particular page of the consultation document). Please note that responses need to be in by 21st February.
The most concerning proposed policy for Slingsby is Question 2, which proposes a new approach to locating developments in a less concentrated, more dispersed approach focused at the Market Towns and specific villages, including existing ‘Service Villages’ and selected additional villages. This basically means a shift of emphasis towards Slingsby and other service villages as areas to site new development, rather than focussing on Malton and Norton.
It’s worth noting that this is not site specific and does not relate to the recent outline applications made by Castle Howard but if it went through it might make these and other larger future plans easier to site in and around Slingsby.
If, as a Slingsby resident, you were to feel that the increased use of service villages to meet Ryedale District Council housing targets was not appropriate, you could in Question 2 reject the proposal and effectively favour Option 1 – the continuation of the current approach.
