Big Clean of Slingsby’s All Saints’ Church, Saturday 7th August

Saturday 7th August, 10 am to 12pm — The Big Clean is back! Any time you can spare would be appreciated!

The church has not had much attention over the last 15 months and it is in urgent need of a good do!

PLEASE come if you are able. The more the merrier – let’s be done and dusted before noon!

Please bring gloves, dusters, cloths etc. There is dusting, polishing, brass and silver cleaning to do. Coffee, tea will be provided.  Some newspaper for protecting surfaces would be useful.
For those who prefer to be outside there is the eternal task of weeding pathways, removing ivy growth from church and boundary walls etc. for which any help is always welcome.

All Saints Church seeks help with finances and flower arranging

The All Saints Church PCC is looking for someone to help with church finances. Full support will be given by our current Treasurer. A small honorarium is available.

All Saints Church also needs people to join the flower arranging team for festivals and events. You do not need to be an expert arranger as support is available from the existing (small) team. We would love to hear from anyone new to the village as well as established villagers.

In either case, please contact Chrysa Apps, PCC Secretary on 07779333489 or email [email protected]

Thank you!

All Saints church visit to Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall Wed 10th July and Newcastle Thu 29th August

Dear Slingsby residents,
In the latest Triangle you should have received a booking form for some of our church activities as part of the Heritage Lottery Fund project. We have now finalised our date for visiting Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall on the 10th July and Newcastle on the 29th August. If you would like to attend either of these and have not yet returned your booking form, please email Kate Giles [email protected] no later than Friday 28th June.
We have now purchased our Moth Trap and had one remarkably successful session trialling it despite the rain. Class 2 in Slingsby Community Primary School were astonished to see the variety of moths – and a May Bug – it caught. They will be helping us to keep a log over the Summer, doing some trapping themselves and hopefully share their findings with us via the Triangle. We’ll post the dates of upcoming evenings and mornings to check the trap via the website as the weather hopefully improves!
best wishes, Kate

All Saints’ church, Slingsby receives National Lottery funding

Onwards and upwards: Local History centre and urgent roof repairs at All Saints’ church, Slingsby National Lottery funding award

All Saints’ Slingsby is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a confirmed grant of £232, 700 by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to carry out urgent repairs to the roof, following lead theft two years ago over the course of Summer 2019.

A new CCTV system has already been installed and the new roofing will be in terne-coated steel. A major benefit of the project for Lottery players is the creation of a new Local History exhibition space and resource centre in the aisles of the church. The exhibition will feature a permanent display about Slingsby Castle and provide temporary exhibition space for Slingsby Local History Group, Slingsby Community Primary School and other local groups. A series of activities in the churchyard is also planned in collaboration with the AONB, mapping flora and fauna, helping to enhance natural as well as local history knowledge in the community.

The first church at Slingsby is recorded in the Domesday Book, but the present building was rebuilt between 1867-1869 by the architect Robert James Johnson of Newcastle for Admiral Howard, of Castle Howard. It is hoped that the project will be completed in time to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the rebuilding in September 2019.  Commenting on the award, “Onwards and Upwards” project officer, Dr Kate Giles said “Slingsby Church was rebuilt thanks to the efforts of the community 150 years ago and it’s great to think that thanks to the National Lottery, it will continue to serve the needs of the local community and our many visitors for generations to come.”
