Ryedale Festival 2017 – booking opens

General public booking for the 2017 Ryedale Festival opens on Monday 22nd May. The Festival runs from 14 to 30 July.

This year, alongside the customary high-class classical music from leading musicians, there will be jazz (“Benny Goodman at the Carnegie Hall” recreated in the Milton Rooms!), talks by Lucy Worsley, Terry Waite and Simon Callow, and music workshops, including one led by the outstanding Scottish folk duo Catriona Mackay and Chris Stout.

The Festival gets fully underway on Friday 14th July with the Gala Opening Concert at 5.30pm down the road in Hovingham Hall. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment play four of Bach’s Brandenburg concertos

Slingsby’s All Saints Church once again hosts a Late-night candlelit concert. (It’s mostly Mozart, at 9.45pm on Wednesday 26 July) See the evening’s programme below.

There must be something for everyone among this year’s 57 events. For full details of all events and how to book, visit the Festival website: http://www.ryedalefestival.com

Ryedale Festival: Late-night Candlelit Mozart

All Saints’ Church Slingsby, Wednesday 26 July 9.45pm

Maria Włoszczowska (violin)
Matthew Huber (cello)
Amy Harman (bassoon)
Alasdair Beatson (piano)

Mozart – Violin Sonata in E minor (K.304)
Mozart – Sonata for bassoon and cello in B flat major (K.292)
Beethoven – Variations on a theme from Mozart’s Magic Flute
Mozart – Piano Trio in B flat major (K.502)

The Ryedale Festival returns to Slingsby after last year’s sell-out, this time bringing us leading instrumentalists playing Mozart in different moods: a violin sonata with a melancholy air, the playful and lyrical sonata for bassoon and cello, and an extrovert piano trio overflowing with ideas. This late-night concert also features Beethoven’s homage to a genius: an irresistible set of variations on a famous theme from Mozart’s Magic Flute.
