Church and Chapel services : Christmas 2015

The annual Candle Service in Slingsby Church is on Christmas Eve at 4.15 p.m. This is a shorter and simpler service, appealing specially to children – of all ages.

The “Midnight” Eucharist for all parishioners of the Street Parishes takes place at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve in Hovingham Church.

Christmas Eucharist in Slingsby Church is on Christmas Day at 10.30 a.m. It is the Christmas Day service for all parishioners of the Street Parishes.

On Sunday 27th December at 10.30 a.m. there is a Christmas service for all the family in Slingsby Methodist Chapel, led by Stephen Prest.

Bin collection and mobile Post Office dates: Xmas 2015

Household waste – please put out bins as normal on Monday 29th December. They will be collected either that day or on Tuesday 29th.

Recycling collection as normal on Monday 4th January 2016 -no garden waste, of course.

Our mobile Post Office will not call on Thursday 24th, Friday 25th or Monday 28th December, nor on Friday 1st January. Full details of the service are here.

 

 

Fracking – Castle Howard intervenes

In a week when the Government confirmed legislation to allow fracking under National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and went on to grant more licences for fracking, the landowners of the Castle Howard and Hovingham Estates, among others, have joined the debate and written a joint letter published in today’s (Saturday’s) Yorkshire Post.

The letter identifies “five massively serious disadvantages” of bringing fracking to Ryedale and further refers to the inadequacy of the regulatory regime in place.

Village Carol Service: Sunday 20th December 2015 at 4pm

carol service1Slingsby Village United Carol Service will be held this Sunday, 20th December, at 4 p.m. in the Methodist Chapel.

The service will be candle lit, and refreshments will be served at the end.

All are very welcome to this celebration of the Christmas story for all the family.
