Slingsby Annual Parish Assembly 22 May

Monday 22nd May 2023, 7.30pm, preceded by Parish Council meeting at 6.30pm

We encourage all parish residents to attend this important annual assembly. There will be plenty of ground to cover, including news of the Sports Club’s bid, Ryedale’s merging into the new North Yorkshire Council, and the latest from Castle Howard. Your views are important to the Parish Council and will help shape what happens in our community.

Amotherby Cat and Kitten Rescue Spring Fair in Slingsby


Saturday 13th May 2023, 10am to 3pm, Slingsby Village Hall.
Amotherby Cat and Kitten Rescue Spring Fair. Free entry. We will have Tombolas, Lucky numbers draw, bric a brac, Interesting stalls selling local products.
Also greetings, cards and note books featuring Art Competition winners entries. Refreshments, including some wonderful homemade cakes.

Ryedale Festival BBC Lunchtime Concerts continue in Hovingham on 3 May 2023

Ryedale Festival’s series of BBC lunchtime concerts continues this week through to Friday.

Wednesday 3 May, 1pm, Hovingham Church: Ryan Corbett (accordion) “…one of the freshest and fastest-rising talents in classical music.”

Thursday 4 May, 1pm, Pickering Parish Church: Santiago Cañón-Valencia (cello) and Naoko Sonoda (piano) The Strad describes this Colombian cellist as ‘mesmerising’ and ‘masterful’.

Friday 5 May, 1pm, Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, University of York: the Mithras Trio, praised for their ‘exquisite phrasing’, ‘full-blooded commitment’ and ‘bold, passionate colours’.

Community Song Cycle, Pickering 29 April

Saturday 29 April, 5pm, Pickering Parish Church

Join star tenor Nicky Spence (BBC Music Magazine Personality of the Year 2022) and an all-age cast for the world premiere of a Community Song Cycle inspired by the Songs of Travel by Vaughan Williams. With new music by Bernard Hughes and words co-created by participants with Hazel Gould, this is a celebration of life’s adventure and the power of imagination.

Ryedale Festival’s BBC Lunchtime concerts follow daily on 2 to 5 May.
